about the deep cuts, there will be even more cuts to food programs, nutrition programs, which will rob people of their lives and their ability to succeed and it's particularly important for our children, our babies, our toddlers, and our children. let's have the courage, not to make this happen and to pull back from these unconscionable cuts to our food and nutrition program. thank you. thank you for doing this. god bless you. ms. schakowsky: thank you for your passion which is obvious every day for making sure we make the smart investments in our children and women and health care in this country. thank you, rosa delauro. and now it is my pleasure to bring up one of the handful of nurses, trained nurses, that are in this house of representatives, and lois capps from california has been a leader on health care and all those programs that are really going to help our families to live the kinds of lives that all of us want to live in the united states. so thank you for joining us. lois capps of california. mrs. capps: thank you. i rise to voice my very strong support of our nation's mate

to develop the right team at the senate campaign committee, and i'm pleased to tell you that senator rob portman has agreed to be the vice chairman for finance, to help us in acquiring the necessary resources for success, and senator elect ted cruz has agreed to serve as the vice chairman of the nrsc for purposes of grassroots operations and political outreach. we have already in place the beginnings of a team that will work hard to make a difference not just on behalf of republicans, but on behalf of all americans. thank you very much. >> take a couple questions. >> yesterday the white house reis rated their request for $26 billion in revenue as part of a $4 trillion package. is that s. anything along the lines of $1.6 trillion something you think republicans could ultimately agree to if there were entitlements alongside? >> can i only echo what the speaker said very correctly last week. republicans believe that there is a way to get additional revenue. we also believe that additional revenue should be tied to the only thing in a are -- will save the country in the long run and that is

i try to explain that to my constituents back home, the ones who come and say, rob, why can't you all just come together and mr. consensus? why can't you find that middle ground? it's because in my mind, mr. speaker, there's no question but we have to raise revenue through smart tax policy, and we have to cut spending which is the driver of our debt. but when my president looks at this very same set of numbers, looks at this very same rising debt across the country, looks at the same economic destruction that this debt is causing across the nation, he raises taxes by $2 trillion and raises spending by even more. mr. speaker, he says balance but the only proposal he's brought the congress in the last 12 months is about as unbalanced as they come. we can, mr. speaker, we can come together in the middle. we can find consensus. as i said earlier, my democratic colleague from virginia accurately identified the challenges. none of them are easy. none of the solutions are easy. but don't be fooled, mr. speaker, into breebing that either, a, this house isn't serious about bringing revenues ba

we have this remarkable scene, where the romney campaign is talking to rob portman on speaker phone, and they are talking about the possibility of having paul ryan going to the podium and sending anybody home until the next morning, saying, "we will let more to say in the morning." and he said do not do that. we will have results, and at that point, the romney campaign decided it probably was in the best interests to wait on the results and not send paul ryan down there. host: winning only north carolina. guest: is absolutely amazing. the obama people woke up on election day realizing they would lose florida narrowly, and they were shocked by their own success in carolina. one thing i did not put in the book, as the campaigns to reach the home stretch, the numbers in florida for the obama folks looked better, and bill clinton of all people demanded from chicago, hey, get me into florida more, and bill clinton did a lot of appearances in florida, and a lot of people think that may have helped turn the tide. host: we have one more caller from illinois. good morning to you. caller: good
